DRUG MONEY FAILS.
The recent US$5 billion US aid package, known as Plan Colombia, has failed to make any dent into the lucrative coca farming industry in Colombia.
This was according to report before Congress, in Washington, yet a fact well known for years in Latin America.
The US government are to trim the aid by $650 million, owing to the current global financial crisis.The last 5 administrations, have poured billions of dollars into Colombia to no avail.
The United States has 5% of the worlds population, yet consumes70% of the worlds drugs, employs 80% of the worlds psychiatrists and 70% of the worlds lawyers.
One cannot help wondering, if this money would be better spent on education and re-habilitation in the United States.
Coca production is going up by around 15% per year for the last 25 years.
