Countryside photo is picture perfect
Farmer Kathy Wright is the winner of a photo competition designed to put East Anglia's striking landscape in the frame.
Her photograph of a tractor ploughing above the Waveney Valley beat more than 70 other entries in the NFU's Making Green Ground competition. And now she is looking forward to enjoying her prize - a short break on a farm! "It will be a bit of a busman's holiday but I haven't had a holiday since 1996 so I'm delighted," said Kathy, of Mendham Low Road near Harleston, Norfolk. "There are so many lovely places in East Anglia to explore with my camera, and it will be great to get away for a couple of days."
Kathy took the winning photo in August, on a field farmed by her neighbour, Gary Kent. "I saw him ploughing and thought I would take a few photos while walking the dog. It's a beautiful view from up there," she said. The competition, on the theme of farming and the environment, was launched in May to highlight the crucial role farmers play in creating and managing the countryside. It was open to amateur photographers, and all the photos had to be taken in East Anglia.
Kathy's prize is a short break for two at the Farm Stay accommodation of her choice in East Anglia, together with £100 spending money. There were also two runners up, each receiving £50. Chris Buxton from Ely, Cambridgeshire sent in an early morning photo of round bales in fields close to Ely Cathedral while Graham Cannell of Wymondham, Norfolk contributed a picture taken in fields at Flordon, Norfolk.
