Dairy demand remains high as heifers top £2,000 mark

WITH top notch newly-calved commercial dairy heifers now topping the £2,000 mark, auctioneers say demand shows no sign of abating.

However, while the milk price is encouraging investment or expansion on some units, other 'fence-sitters' are deciding there might never be a better time to get out.

Carlisle auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington say demand for high quality Holstein heifers remains at an all time high and go as far as saying that, as milk prices continue to increase, "it may be a wise decision to buy now before heifer prices rise again."
