England-TheCo-op introduce Freindly Food from caring farmers.

ENGLAND.

THE CO-OP.

Few people realize that the Co-operative Society are still the largest convenience store network in England, albeit a far cry from their hey days prior to the emergence of the supermarkets in the late sixties.

The Co-op used to own farms, abattoirs and dairies to supply their own retail shops, which all changed when Tesco, Fine Fare and Safeway came into the market on a grand scale. That was until the Co-op re-invented itself for the first time.

From January which is next week, the Co-op will have available a new brand known as Freedom Food, using meat from accredited farms that comply with a very high standard of animal husbandry.

The scheme is working in close association with the RSPCA and insisting on their guidelines being adhered to on all farms that produce the livestock.

More than 100,000 Co-op customers from across the country responded to a poll and animal welfare was one on the customer major concerns. The housewife spoke and the Co-op reacted.

This appears to be goof for the Co-op and good for the shoppers and most certainly good for the animals concerned.
