EU Agenda: health check for Agriculture
Brussels (EUX.TV) -- On Tuesday 20 November, the Commission will publish a Communication setting out its ideas for possible improvements to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The Communication will be sent to the Council and Parliament for discussion and will be followed by legal proposals in spring 2008.
It is important that the CAP is able to adapt to new challenges as they emerge. Therefore, the CAP will have a "healthy check"; its instruments will be evaluated to identify any adjustments needed to meet the stated objectives.
The main questions over which the Commission is concerned are about market support instrument in the globalized world, the risks and opportunities of climate change and the effectiveness of the Single payment Scheme.
