Farm, Food and Countryside brought to life in NFU booklet
If you love the countryside and enjoy British food you can learn more about both in a new NFU booklet launched at this year’s Royal Show.
Farm, Food and Countryside aims to give people a better understanding of the role farmers play in both food production and maintaining the country’s landscape while highlighting all that is great about rural Britain.
NFU President Peter Kendall said: "Everyone loves the great British countryside and for lots of different reasons. Some people like to spend their weekends in the fresh air and others want to enjoy wonderful British food.
"Farming is at the core of both these essential ingredients of life. Farmers care for the British countryside and grow or rear the produce that ends up on our dinner tables. Farming will also become more important with the increasing demands of climate change and population growth.
"We also know that people have a genuine interest in what we do as farmers – and some strong opinions about it. That’s why we have reprinted this booklet – to give people an insight into farming and answer some of the questions they might have about what we do."
The booklet, which is an updated reprint of a booklet originally produced by NFU member Guy Smith, includes details of how farmers manage and maintain the countryside as well as explaining the farming year, highlighting the high quality food produced in this country, and explaining the roles science and technology play in agriculture and food production.
