Farm lobby revs up political campaign against RMA
Federated Farmers has launched a new offensive against the Government over the Resource Management Act.
Launching a booklet canvassing six perceived problems with the environmental legislation, Federation president Charlie Pedersen told his national council meeting in Wellington that the issue was "one of the most serious that we as an industry will face".
Mr Pedersen warned that problems over regional council plans to protect the environment by setting rules that could restrict farming practices were already occurring.
"These rules are becoming increasingly draconian and threaten the viability of farming in some parts of New Zealand," he said.
