France-Concerns over high cow slaughterings.

CATTLE SLAUGHTER.

The Ministry of Agriculture in France, is alarmed at the large numbers of female cattle slaughtered this year that would normally go for breeding.

In the first nine months of 2008, there have been 1,077,604 cows slaughtered and a further 281,088 heifers.

This compared with 898,153 steers and young bulls.

The ministry is concerned, that cattle numbers are going to decrease to such a point, that more beef imports are going to be required.
