Grains industry finds a southern pulse

Although the region has become well known for high-yielding cereal and oilseed crops, pulse production is yet to take off in the Western District in Victoria.

A combination of concerns about waterlogging, acidic soils and farming practices have meant that legumes have never really taken off in the high rainfall zones of the south-west of the State, in spite of the rotational benefits and potential for good returns in clement seasons.
