Holme Farmed Venison, who have been rearing deer for almost 20 years, have won the ’fresh meat, game and poultry’ award at the 2008 Deliciously Yorkshire awards, with their rack of venison.
The Awards were held at Rudding Park on 3rd November.
HFV beat off stiff competition from The Beef Improvement Company’s Givendale Beef and Taste Tradition’s sucking pig Porchetta, to take the award.
HFV’s venison is naturally farmed for the highest quality and flavour. All the animals are reared on extensive grazing systems. The meat is then butchered to the highest standards and can be adapted to meet any special requests.
Nigel Sampson, Managing Director of HFV, based in Sherburn in Elmet, North Yorkshire was extremely pleased with the win.
"We are delighted!’ comments Nigel. ’We spend a great deal of time making sure the deer are reared in such a way that the meat is of the upmost quality. The rack of venison is ideal for crown roasts or for cutlets and is incredibly succulent, so it is pleasing to see it get the credit it deserves.’
’Venison has a delicious flavour and is naturally low in cholesterol compared to other meats, and because it is so lean there is very little wastage. I think these factors have had an influence over recent demand, which has actually increased, despite the economic downturn.’
The award winning rack of venison is a seasonal special product at ASDA, Waitrose and Sainsbury stores.
