COOKING OIL IMPORTS.
India’s edible oil imports for 2007-2008, are likely to rise by 13% as plunging palm oil prices lift demand.
The current low prices to farmers, saw a move to grain farming, cashing in on the commodity boom.
Imports of edible oils this year are expected to be 5.3 million tons, compared with 4.7 million tons last year.
The high prices last year, kept imports at a basic minimum, however the low prices this year have seen a surge in imports.
India is one of the worlds leading importers of edible oils.
