IRELAND-CAUALTY AND FALLEN CATTLE.

The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that its contribution to the Fallen Animals Scheme (FAS) has ceased, with effect from today.

But it is to provide financial support for the collection of cattle over 48 months, as required under the national BSE surveillance programme.

Farmers can continue to use the collection network or transport dead animals by prior arrangement to approved plants.

The burial of animals that die on-farm is precluded unless the farmer has a burial licence, but these can only be issued in respect of fallen animals in remote areas, such as bogs.
