Slaughter of 100,000 pigs begins.

The Government of Ireland has announced the plans for slaughtering 100.000 pigs, that will not be done on the farms or at licensed meat plants

A spokespersons aid the pig slaughter had caused a major logistical problem, it was not possible to say how many had been slaughtered at this stage. The pigs are from 11 different farms in the Republic of Ireland.

There are 4,000 cattle that have to be slaughtered , from 24 farms which will cause a greater problem, as they will have to be skinned prior to going into the animal by products plant. One can safely assume that these will be slaughtered in the plants in the same manner as the cow cull cattle in England.

The European Union have given 20 million euros towards the slaughter, that is in place to guarantee the meat does not enter the food chain.


This is indeed the worse disaster in the history of the Irish meat and farming history, since the potato famine.
