TRACEABILITY IN PORK.

Ned O’Keeffe the former minister of state for agriculture in Ireland, told the government inquiry into the pork dioxin scandal, that the traceabilty in the pork industry "Is not worth the paper its written on".

He went on to say that in his belief, the pork processors changed the label and dates on pork products, while the dioxin scare was going on.

O’keeffe was one of the largest pig producers in Ireland, prior to his retirement a couple of years ago and there is no doubt that he has first hand knowledge of the industry.

He went on to accuse the industry of mixing imported pork with Irish pork, for further processing and value adding, with no regard to the origins of the product used other than the price.

The chairman of the government committee of investigation Johnny Brady, stressed that O’Keeffe should take any information that he has to the correct authorities.
