Leading French equipment Manufacturer GYS are making a splash

Until recently here at Farming UK we had not heard of GYS, which is odd when you consider the company’s credentials. GYS are a major equipment manufacturer from France, in fact they are the biggest supplier of welding equipment and battery chargers to the agriculture sector in France and in other European markets.

So how come such a major player in our industry is so little known in the UK? Talking with Neil Pulsford- manager of GYS in the UK: "You can be a very strong brand in one country and be completely unknown in another, we may be well known on the continent but the GYS brand had not been able to ’swim across the channel’ and that was the reason why we decided to open a subsidiary in the UK to serve the UK market."

So why should you be taking notice of GYS? The GYS range is wide, the welding line features MMA (stick welding); the flagship model the Gysmi 161 is the best selling of its kind in Europe. They offer low cost easy set-up smart control MIG machines as well as pro MIG products progressing to specialist 3-phase machines and TIG.

Battery support equipment ranges from traditional high output chargers to the more advanced Batium design for the latest technology batteries providing safety and security for vehicle electronics, allowing the battery to be charged in situ with total safety for the electronics in the vehicle. High power starters capable of 12 & 24V and professional booster packs are also offered.

The manufacturer states that the high specification is also paired with high quality, Neil explains that: "Our technology, quality and price give us a very strong value proposition. Our volume and proximity to the UK means that we are extremely competitive." A bold statement, but when GYS discuss quality and price, they quite literally put their money where their mouth is. With more than 1,000 machines going out of the factory in the Laval region of France every day, there is no room for rejects or production problems, the testing procedure is painstakingly thorough.

"Everything is tested and re-tested, and re-tested. Every single circuit board, is tested twice during manufacture and once again when it has been assembled in the machine. Neil reaffirms, 100% of production is tested after final assembly with each welding set going through a regime of multiple different electrical and electronic tests."

A combination of professional quality and competitive priced products looks set to see this company swim across the channel.
