Livestock 'Village' will add to Frome Show enjoyment

Livestock being shown at Frome Show this year are to have their own "Village".

Show organisers are changing the layout of the livestock area to make it easier for owners and breeders to show their animals and for visitors to see them, and to create a much more "together" feeling.

"The three livestock sections, cattle, sheep and goats, will still have their own areas and visitors will still find us close to the Bunns Lane entrance to the West Woodlands Showground," explained Cattle Section Chairman Tony Page, "but the new Livestock Village will not only improve the appearance of the area but will also greatly add to the atmosphere.

"It will also help guarantee bio security, something we're all very conscious of as we had to cancel the livestock classes last year because of the outbreak of foot and mouth in the South East."

And adding further to the status of the show, it's been confirmed that the Holstein South West Young Breeders Calf Show competitions, previously held in Frome every other year, are now to take place at West Woodlands annually, starting this year.

Added Tony Page: "One thing remains unchanged and that's the climax of the day's programme, the Grand Parade, when the winners of the livestock classes are led around the Main Ring and are presented with their prizes."

Meanwhile, trade stand sales continue to flourish with many of the extra 50 places added for 2008 already booked. An area of the showground close to the Main Ring now dedicated to agriculturally based businesses, the two food halls, Local Food and Fine Food, are both fully booked and there also demand from food manufacturers in the Cheese Pavilion where extra stand space has been laid on.
