Milkfed to adopt Dera Bassi as model for dairy farming
Milkfed has adopted Dera Bassi as a model block for the promotion of dairy farming in the state. This was announced by the Punjab Cooperation Minister Captain Kanwaljit Singh today while addressing a public meeting.
Kanwaljit Singh said that the Cooperative department has planned the scheme of dairy farming for bringing about a white revolution in the state and helping the farming, landless and Dalit communities to increase their daily incomes. He said that farming community was passing through a grim phase due to the atrocious policies of the UPA-led Central government. He said that Milkfed would develop this Dera Bassi block as a role model for other areas of the state and inspire every household in the block to engage in dairy farming. He also stated that this process would be implemented in other areas of the state.
He disclosed that the department had formulated a plan for the funding of dairy farms, under which loans would be provided for the establishment of big dairy farms and for the purchase of cows by marginal and small farmers. He said Milkfed would procure the milk produced by these dairy farms. He also claimed that the company was paying the highest price to dairy farmers for the milk produce as compared to other private companies in the sector.
