Namibia-Levy on Livestock.

NAMIBIA (FORMERLY SOUTH WESTAFRICA)

EXPORT LEVY ON LIVESTOCK.

Namibia for over 60 years has been the source of livestock for slaughter in South Africa, with cattle trains running daily to the beef plants of Johannesburg.

The newly formed body of the Livestock Producers Forum(LMF),wish to keep a levy in place on sheep and goats that are destined for export, in order to build up the numbers in the national flock.

The firm of international accountants, Price Waterhouse-Coopers, last year prepared a study on behalf of the government, indicating the advantages of slaughtering all stock in the country.

The LMF, has recommended a steering committee, to guide the re-structuring process.
