New concepts in an old landscape
The magnificent setting of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, which is set in 21,000 acres of beautiful parkland landscaped by Capability Brown, is the fascinating venue for the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s latest one-day game management course, being held on Thursday 16 September from 10.00am to 4.15pm.
Surrounded by sweeping lawns, formal gardens and a magnificent lake, this premier estate, which runs a renowned shoot on a World Heritage Site, offers plenty of challenges. Creating new drives to make the most of the topography together with the introduction of red-legged partridges has enabled the estate to widen the breadth of shooting opportunities.
Run by two of the Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s expert advisors, complemented by the first hand experience of the estates head keeper, the day at Blenheim will offer a fascinating insight into the many changes that this prestigious estate has implemented to improve and enhance the shoot including the restoration and renovation of the historic woodlands.
The Trust has been advising the estate for more than 30 years on a wide range of game management techniques, including the extensive use of game cover. The advisors are thus well placed to make this an inspiring and thought-provoking day for those attending.
The day will include an extensive tour of the estate to explain how it implemented many innovations to create new drives that make the most of the stunning landscape. The event will also look at the management of historic woodland and the extensive range of cover crops that have been established as well as illustrating how the shoot operates in harmony with this historic setting.
To attend the day which costs £50 per person to include lunch, please contact Lynda Ferguson on 01425 656013 or visit the Trust’s website : www.gwct.org.uk/course or email: advisory@gwct.org.uk.
