T8000 is the name chosen by New Holland for the high horsepower tractors that will replace its outgoing TG Series. The new name reflects a change in direction for the New Holland brand and mirrors the evolving performance characteristics of its innovative, modern engines.
Historically the power of the engine was displayed as part of the model number on all New Holland tractors, but with the advent of Engine Power Management and Power Growth, this no longer tells the whole performance story.
The change in methodology will help ensure that customers are made fully aware of the complete performance package that New Holland's tractors offer, rather than leaving them to make assumptions based on the model number.
When New Holland launched the TG Series at the end of 2002, the flagship tractor pointed the way forward for the styling and functionality buyers could expect across the brand's ranges in the years ahead. With this latest change in name, the high-performance T8000 tractors are again leading the way.
Available from early next year, the T8000 sets the standards that all New Holland's – and competitors' – tractors will be measured against. The Series consists of three models with three new engines that offer maximum power outputs of 281-337hp (ISO 14396).
Key innovations on the tractors include a new 19x4 Ultra Command™ transmission that gives smooth, clutchless gear changes from first to nineteenth gear. The gearbox is available in both 50 kph and 40kph Economy versions, with the 40kph top speed achieved by limiting the engine speed in top gear, essential for savings as fuel costs continue to rise.
The Ultra Command transmission is also available with creeper speeds, resulting in a 23x6, 40kph transmission that offers clutchless shifting from first to top gear. Whichever gearbox is chosen, the quality of the gear changes is better than ever to the point that they are almost seamless the whole way through the gearbox.
Inside the T8000's large, spacious cab, operator improvements include the addition of an Auto PTO function to the Headland Turn Sequencer system. This allows the operator to program both the point at which the PTO cuts out when an implement is lifted out of the ground and the point at which it starts again when it is lowered back into work.
The T8000 also now features a new IntelliView™ monitor as part of the operator's armrest control console. Linked into the tractor's CAN BUS system, this can be used to control and monitor systems on compatible implements via an ISOBUS connection.
As befits New Holland's flagship tractor, operator comfort has received special attention with the latest T8000 being fitted with a new heated seat, available in semi-active specification, and an improved climate control system, vital for long hours behind the wheel in all conditions.
To improve visibility in the field in wet conditions, a new window wiper has been fitted on the cab's right hand glass panel, while for night working, optional 360-degree lighting is available which features two high intensity discharge (HID) lamps at the front, two HID lamps at the rear and a halogen lamp on either side of the cab. A new delay switch on the cab interior lights makes it safer to leave the tractor when it is dark.
Externally, the T8000 maintains the New Holland family styling, with the main differences being more cooling grilles around the bonnet.
Under the bonnet, the three models in the Series all feature new, electronically governed, 24-valve, 8,300cc engines with common-rail fuel injection. Also featuring waste gated turbochargers and air-to-air intercoolers, the engines are Tier lll compliant and have improved fuel efficiency characteristics.
Rated power is available at 2,200rpm across the Series, with maximum engine output achieved at 2000rpm. This results in power growth of 33hp for the T8020 and 34hp for T8030 and T8040. Torque rise is similarly impressive at 47 per cent, 47 per cent and 42 per cent respectively for the three models.
Now fitted with grid heater starting as standard, the new engines also come complete with a water-in-fuel sensor and a fuel-filter service warning lamp. With the fuel tank capacity of 682 litres, the most powerful model now has an estimated continuous working time of 15 hours.
A number of improvements have been made to the hydraulic system on the T8000. Inside the cab, the main rear lift control has been changed from a quadrant-type switch to a round control knob for easier operation. The hydraulic lift and one spool valve can also now be operated from new controls on the tractor's rear fenders, which also feature a button to operate the PTO. The rear linkage is available with a hydraulic top link adjusted from the fender or within the cab.
For towing applications, the T8000 now offers a combination of air brakes and hydraulically activated brakes, allowing operators to switch between trailers or towed equipment with both types of braking system.
In common with all New Holland products, a selection of dealer-installed accessories is available to allow owners to exactly match the T8000 to their requirements. These include the usual selection of front weight packs and carriers, radios and beacons as well as front-linkage.
With many farmers now aware of the benefits of satellite-guided operations, the T8000 can be supplied with the EZ-Guide™ Plus system, where the operator uses a lightbar to keep the tractor on course.
The T8000 has been developed to meet the needs of modern agriculture, with particular focus on fuel efficiency and ease of operation. New Holland offers the widest range of tractors in the business and you can be assured that the brand's flagship Series, with its combination of styling and pulling ability, will not disappoint.
