New Nitrogen supplies herald the Silver Jubilee for Laws Fertilisers
The arrival of 2,500 tonnes of granular nitrogen into Sutton Bridge in Lincolnshire is the start of a long term agreement between Law Fertilisers and a European producer to provide a much needed alternative to the UK-based foreign-owned manufacturer of premium grade ammonium nitrate fertilisers.
The product, which also includes 3% magnesium, can be delivered to farm in bulk, saving both money and plastic waste for farmers. With direct ex-ship deliveries at £125/tonne, this is a £70-80/tonne discount over current granular nitrogen prices and lessens the plastic and packaging waste burden on the farm.
Mark Law, Managing Director of Law Fertilisers who have been trading for twenty-five years this year, says that by dealing direct with a shipper/manufacturer such as Law Fertilisers, farmers will not only get a premium product when they want it but also a stable and low price. "The last farming season saw nitrogen prices going up to £400/tonne before nose diving to £180/tonne within months. This unsatisfactory pattern was difficult to understand as in my view there was no real cost reason for the huge price increases we saw in the first place. However this new shipment of bulk granular nitrogen will be the first of many in 2010 and will give farmers the opportunity to deal direct with a local fertiliser producer as well as providing them with real benefits of cost and waste management."
2010 is the Silver Jubilee for Law Fertilisers, one of only three independent fertiliser producers operating in the Eastern Counties. "This is being celebrated by the official opening of our new factory at March in June this year plus a series of farmer talks entitled ’the Future of Fertilisers’. Any farmer group interested to hear what we have to say on this matter is invited to contact me directly on 01354 740740 and we would be very pleased to hear from them," says Mark.
