New oilseeds conference arranged

A new oilseed rape conference is being organised by United Oilseeds in conjunction with the HGCA to provide growers with access to the latest developments in oilseed rape research, establishment and disease control.

The event, which is free to attend, is being held at the Northampton Hilton Hotel, Collingtree, NN4 0XW on Wednesday 2nd February 2011 from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm.

Speakers at the conference will include Dr Jim McVittie, Lead Manager at the HGCA, who will be discussing the assessment of vigour in oilseed rape and the challenges associated with constructing the recommended list trial site. Dr Mark Stevens of Broom Barn, EHF, will present a paper looking at the control of Turnip Yellows Virus in oilseed rape, and Dr Paul Miller of TAG/NIAB will discuss the impact of reducing the availability of herbicides for oilseed rape.

The conference will be chaired by Richard Elsdon, Technical Manager for United Oilseeds, who said, "This new conference provides an ideal opportunity for oilseed rape growers to hear the latest groundbreaking research relating to three major topics which can dramatically affect oilseed rape profitability.

"It is envisaged that the meeting will become an annual event in the arable diary and one that provides growers with a valuable and accessible source of information."

To book their place at the conference, attendees should call Lorna Maslen at United Oilseeds on 01380 729200 or email lorna@unitedoilseeds.co.uk
