New Zealand-Migration of butchers.

NEW ZEALAND.

MASS MIGRATION.

The recent closures of 3 large meat plants in New Zealand, has seen an Exodus of highly skilled slaughtermen to Australia.

These men have been welcomed with open arms, by the Australian meat industry, who have been struggling for years, to get sufficient skilled workers.

The meat trades unions in NZ, have been working with the union in Australia, to place the slaughtermen and boners into secure established meat plants

The basic wage for slaughtermen, is around AU$750 per week for a basic week, killing on the tally system, whereby wages are based on a minimum number of animals per man to be slaughtered each day.

Whilst these wages are far less than Europe, they are triple the wages for the same job in Argentina or Brazil
