Nine turkeys stolen from Hertfordshire farm carry health risk

The public have been warned of a potential health risk if they eat turkeys which have been stolen from a Hertfordshire farm.

A farmer, who rears turkeys at Church Farm in Ardeley, warned that someone has stolen nine Norfolk Black turkeys from his farm, which are "tainted" and carry a health-risk.

The incidents happened during two separate break-ins on Friday and Saturday (15/16 December).

Tim Waygood warned on Twitter: "They were Norfolk Black Turkeys kept for breeding and recently wormed. Were taken away alive, probably in a van.

Mr Waygood explained that the animals have recently been wormed, and were not for eating.

"If they have been killed, culprits will be eating or selling tainted food. They will be ill," he said.

Hertfordshire Police have urged for any witnesses.
