NORTHERN IRELAND - TRAINING YOUNG MEAT PEOPLE.

Two training initiatives that have been running at Irish meat process orDunbia, based at Granville Industrial Estate Dungannon, ended recently, and those employees involved in the training programmes received recognition for their achievements.

One of the training programmes was designed in conjunction with the ’Institute of Leadership and Management’ for supervisors working on the production floor.

Certain modules were selected including Organising your Time; Role of the Team Leader; Continuous Improvement and Dealing with Change.

Each trainee developed an action plan and used it to identify personal goals and individual training needs as well as those of their team members.

Completing the modules allowed supervisors to see how they can play a central role in meeting business needs.

The impact of the training has already been recognised first hand on the production floor in more effective management and through enhancing the culture of quality.

Kenny Swann (Managing Director, Dunbia) said: "The supervisors who have undergone the training have shown tangible results in terms of improved service levels and product quality, and reduced wastage."

Dunbia (Dungannon) operates in an increasingly competitive marketplace and understands that it needs to ensure the skills and capabilities of its senior and middle management teams are of the highest standards.

A Management Development programme was designed including elements such as Leadership Skills; Commercial Awareness and Business Acumen; Decision Making; Performance Management and Business Communication.

The Management Development programme has been successful, equipping management staff with the necessary skills to develop and link with organisational objectives.

Warren Hamer, Category Manager (Protein) for Iceland Supermarkets, one of Dunbia Dungannon’s key customers presented the trainees with their awards.

He said: "It is extremely encouraging to see Dunbia being proactive in training all levels of staff, which in turn affect the quality of product we put on our shelves. All those, who received their ILM certificates, should be extremely proud and actively put all they have learnt into practise, to benefit all parties."
