Washington – Georgia peanut farmer Terry Pickle has been planting peanuts since he was 6 years old.
For three generations, the Pickle family has made a living by plowing the sandy soil for their annual peanut harvest. Working on two peanut farms along US-27, Pickle usually starts his workday before the sun rises and finishes when he can't see the dirt in his hands anymore.
"Peanuts is what I know," he said. "You have to put the work in to get the harvest you want."
However, Pickle and many Georgia peanut farmers say they are concerned that their way of life may come to an end given a lack of money being set aside for them as the Senate negotiated the 2007 farm bill this week.
