Penrith farm students rise three-fold
The number of young farmers
studying agriculture at Newton Rigg, the Cumbria Campus of the University of Central Lancashire, has increased almost three-fold, reflecting the returning confidence within the industry.
Student agricultural engineering numbers have also doubled, and the number of trainee gamekeepers is at its highest level at the campus at Penrith.
In the year after the foot-and
mouth outbreak the number of new agricultural students starting National Diplomas in Agriculture at Newton Rigg fell to just nine. This year it has increased to 24.
