PHILIPPINES-CONTAMINATED MEAT.
Some 500 kilos of suspected hot meat were found abandoned Saturday by the police in front of the Balintawak market in Quezon City.
Police said the double-dead meat, placed in sacks and baskets, could have been abandoned by its owner because it was in a near stage of decomposition.
Witnesses said the meat was unloaded from a provincial bus but was left unclaimed by the owner.
Thousands of kilos of suspected hot meat have been seized by the police and City Hall personnel this year since the city government launched a campaign against "botcha" or double-dead meat.
Some pieces of double-dead meat are mixed with fresh meat and sold by unscrupulous traders to unsuspecting buyers, police said.
Elements of Station 1 of the Quezon City Police District brought the hot meat to the Payatas dumpsite for proper disposition.
