Poultry workers in normal condition: Civil Hospital

The condition of three poultry workers admitted to the isolation ward of Civil Hospital, Karachi (CHK), is completely normal, said Medical Superintendent CHK, Dr Kaleem Butt on Thursday.

He said that, on the first day, they were suffering from fever but now they were absolutely normal. However, they would stay at the hospital for another eight-to-ten days as a precautionary measure.

The three were working on the poultry farm in Gadap Town where laboratory tests confirmed the existence of H5N1 strain of bird flu on February 1.

Health experts took their samples and sent the same for laboratory tests in Islamabad.

Later, a team of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Institute of Health, Islamabad, again took samples of their blood and throat.
