Danger and inconvenience from ice or snow-bound yards, tracks, walkways and car parks can be avoided through the timely use of one of its specialised salt and sand spreaders, says Telford-based manufacturer Kuhn Farm Machinery.
With the choice of 3-point mounted PTO-driven machines, trailed models with land wheel drive and a new hand-operated spreader, Kuhn offers an effective solution to wintry conditions for local authorities, supermarkets and sports clubs alike.
Both trailed and mounted machines are available with the choice of 350-litre and 600-litre hoppers and operate with single disc spreading mechanisms. Spreading width is easily adjustable by altering the angle of a stainless steel shield, giving an effective range from 0.8m up to 9.0m. Application of material can also be offset to either side of the machine by pivoting the hopper bottom to alter the drop point of material onto the disc.
Allowing for the relative density of salt and sand, the chassis on these machines is of stronger construction than a conventional fertiliser spreader. Disc blades and hopper bottom are also of heavy-duty construction to counter the increased abrasive action of salt and sand.
Trailed machines operate with land wheel drive from either wheel, and a ratchet mechanism facilitates freewheeling if the machine is reversed. The land wheel drive can be disengaged with a manual clutch.
Both machines have the option of cable control of the hopper outlet.
For local authorities or businesses with smaller-scale requirements, a hand operated salt and sand spreader is now available from Kuhn.
The K51 is wheel driven, has a 50 litre plastic hopper, and will spread from 0.5 - 6.0 metres due to adjustable disc vanes. Spreading can be limited to the left hand side only and the drive is easily disengaged to allow the machine to be moved without spreading. Hopper bottom, agitator, shutter, spread limiter and spreading disc are all made of stainless steel.
An accurate application rate scale is included on the K51, so the machine can be used reliably for seed and fertilizer, as well as for spreading salt, sand and fine gravel. Attachments are available so that the machine can be towed behind a small vehicle, or pushed by hand.
The hand operated K51 is priced at £620. Three-point mounted machines start at £1440 and the trailed machines start at £3,340.
