Tenant farmers focus on 2010 vision for agriculture

The Tenant Farmers Association is halfway through a national road show of meetings seeking its members’ views and opinions about the future of agriculture and the support mechanisms which underpin it.

TFA Chief Executive George Dunn said "We are heading towards some vitally important discussions about the future of agriculture and its support mechanisms across the EU as a whole between 2013 and 2020. Coupled with this we will be facing a General Election in the UK before summer next year. We are therefore talking to our members about their vision for the future of farming and what we need to do to achieve that vision".

"We have teamed up with Syngenta who are sponsoring the run of meetings and Andersons farm business consultants who have been providing the objective analysis of the current situation and likely future scenarios to assist us in our discussions. It is fair to say that we have had some lively discussions from which many great ideas have already emerged. We will be using the discussions to feed into a vision document which the TFA will publish in the New Year," said Mr Dunn.

Next week the TFA road show heads North with meetings at the following venues all starting at 7:30 pm with a buffet supper and the first speaker starting at 8:00 pm:

02 November Hatherton Country House Hotel, Pinfold Lane, Penkridge, Stafford, ST19 5QP

03 November Mitton Hall, Mitton, Near Whalley, Clitheroe, BB7 9PQ

04 November Tynedale Function and Conferencing Suite (Hexham Auction Market), Tyne Green, Northumberland, NE46 3SG

05 November Brackenborough Hotel, Cordeaux Corner, Louth Lincolnshire, LN11 0SZ

The events are free of charge to farm tenants and their guests, but anyone wanting to attend must register their interest with the TFA on 0118 930 6130, or by email to events@tfa.org.uk.
