TFTA sets sights on new members
A revised membership fee structure introduced by The Traditional Farmfresh Turkey Association is already attracting new members.
The Golden Promise brand of Christmas turkeys — the first UK food mark to gain protected EU status — is backed by an independent inspection scheme which has been funded out of the annual subscription.
Now the inspection is to be charged separately and the levy per bird considerably reduced which is seen as a fairer way to fund the organisation.
This year members are paying 25p or 35p / poult (43p / poult in 2006) depending on when they renew, with the lower rate retained for new members joining throughout 2007. The inspection for this year will be charged at a flat rate of £136.50 plus VAT.
"We believe the new fee structure will provide a sound basis on which to grow the organisation," says Jane Haigh, TFTA chairman. "Our Golden Promise brand continues to gain support, and we received last Christmas a record number of unsolicited letters of congratulations and praise from the great discerning British consumer."
The availability of good quality turkey boxes at a highly competitive rate has always been a major benefit for TFTA members. This year it is introducing an attractive, much improved range of boxes illustrated with the colourful countryside design developed for the different types of Golden Promise turkey.
