The Cheshire ploughing match

ONCE again it is Cheshire Ploughing and Hedging Match time. This year's match is at Doddington Park Farm, Bridgemere, Nr Nantwich (on the A51 one mile north of Bridgemere Garden Centre) on Wednesday 29 September, 2004.

The match has something for everyone with an interest in the countryside, from the professional farmer to someone who has worked in agriculture in the past or is maybe just interested in seeing ploughing and hedge laying at its best.

NFU Cheshire County Chairman, Norman Lawson, who helps to organise the match, said: "At the match, farming both old and new is working in front of you, not just static exhibits. There are local refreshment stalls to enjoy and a bar to whet your whistle in.

"The match is as popular as ever with competitors, with entries up yet again. The standard of ploughing as usual will be very high. To see the vintage and classic tractors still working and the standard to which they are maintained is a credit to their owners.

"This year there are more than 110 trade stands which are all agriculturally focused businesses giving you good service all the year round, making the match the biggest purely agricultural show in the county."

So go along and see the old and the new together in one field, the horses alongside modern equipment, maybe followed by a visit to Bridgemere Garden Centre. It'll be a grand day out.
