The right side of the law: Seminar on migrant workers
Staffordshire-based solicitors Knights are running a seminar for the directors and senior managers of local businesses to help in exploring the new legislation surrounding the employment of migrant workers, giving guidance as to how to avoid the new civil criminal penalties of £10,000 per employee or 2 years imprisonment for any employees found to be working illegally.
The seminar, which will take place on Thursday 30th October between 4pm and 6pm will be presented at the offices of Knights by solicitor Lynne Ingram, an experienced employment law specialist.
Lynne will explore issues around new regulations on the employment of migrant workers, which came into force in February 2008, and their implications for owner-managed and other businesses. There will be a question and answer session allowing delegates to raise specific issues.
Some of the topics covered in the seminar will include avoiding racial discrimination claims, regulations and penalties and advice and assistance on recruiting migrant workers.
Lynne comments: "Our workshops are designed to provide practical advice and guidance, together with solutions for dealing with potential problems. Businesses that negligently or knowingly employ migrant workers without the correct Home Office permission to work now face tough penalties for doing so. All employers need to be aware of the action necessary to avoid liability."
