The Land Restoration Trust has joined forces with the Country’s leading environmental organisations as part of a major new campaign to encourage conservation volunteering. The Muckin4Life campaign aims to get people fit and healthy by encouraging them to take an active role in their environment.

The Trust, which manages public spaces for community benefit, has already encouraged an impressive 2035 days of volunteering on its sites during the past four years.

Euan Hall, Chief Executive of the Trust, comments "Our ultimate objectives are all about delivering community benefits and essentially community benefit cannot happen without community involvement. Therefore we are very happy to be involved in Mukin4Life."

Muckin4Life is a new DEFRA initiative to encourage environmental volunteering which brings together the Country’s leading conservation organisations including the Wildlife Trusts, the RSPB, Natural England and the Forestry Commission. The Muckin4Life campaign aims to increase the number and diversity of people involved in conservation volunteering, while also increasing awareness and understanding that being active outdoors, whether in urban green spaces or the natural environment, has physical and mental health benefits.

Euan continues, "A key element of the Trust’s work is allowing communities to get involved in their local space because when people come together to improve their environment, community pride and social cohesion will develop. Therefore there is always a wide range of volunteering opportunities available on all our spaces, such as tree planting, hedge laying, building bridges, helping out at events, clearing scrub, building bird boxes or simply recording the wildlife on site.
