The government of Ukraine has adopted two new laws that threaten the trade of importing meat into the country.

The USDA, have warned exporters in the United States of pork and poultry, to expect extraordinary new tariff’s that will be very high on US product.

The reasons given by the government of the Ukraine, for these new measures is to restrict the balance of payments. The gas supply from Russia to the Ukraine was cut off over the weekend, for alleged non payment of a US$2 billion bill.

There has already been a significant drop in meat exports the country, after the de-valuation of its currency in October.

There has for many years been a large and lucrative black market trade, from Poland into the Ukraine for mainly out of date supermarket reject meat from Europe. These are frozen items of fish, chicken and beef that has been processed and passed its sell by date in the European Union.
