Top price bullock @ 191p from Ramrig/ Sourhope to C Douglas, St Boswells. The 101 bullocks averaged 166.7p -1.7p on the week and sold to 191p, Gross £1212 Lurdenlaw. Top price heifer @ 188p from Saughland to Charles Wilson. The 142 heifers averaged 161.6p -6.9p on the week, and sold to 188p. Gross £1060 Setonhill. The 4 young bulls averaged 155.9p -2.1p on the week, and sold to168p. Gross £1020. The 78 beef type OTM averaged 126.8p and sold to 181p Gross £1745 Legars. The 4 dairy type OTM averaged 126.8p and sold to 131p Gross £818.

The 2095 Prime lambs ave 180p +10.9p on the week, and sold to 215.1p £101 Brangan. The 910 ewes ave £45.81 and sold to £101 New Channelkirk. The Cast Ewes & Rams also sold at exceptional levels to £101 for Suffolks from Sandy Sutherland, New Channelkirk, Lauder. Week ending March 6

The mart sold 119 Prime Cattle and 37 Food Chain Cows; 1,391 Prime Lambs; 219 Store & Breeding Cattle. The sheep trade continued to improve with an outstanding consignment of Cheviot lambs from Felkington, Berwick-upon-Tweed reaching 395p and £84.70.

Best premium grade lambs, also Cheviots from Stagehall, Stow realised 380p and £83.60. Suffolk x from Woodhouse, Peebles to £81.94. Continental x lambs from Chatton Park, Alnwick £81.42; £80.77 Cocklaw, Cockburnspath; £79.20 Tosson Glebe, Rothbury. Lightweight Meatlinc x to £73.50 and export weights from Pomathorn, Penicuik to £75.60. The last draw from an outstanding crop of Lleyn lambs from Springhall, Kelso peaked at 380p.

Prime Cattle were fractionally easier with top quality types still commanding a good premium. Hereford x Steers from Cairndinnis, Haddington peaked at £1,205 and averaged £1,039 for 20 sold. Home bred Continental Steers from Messrs Fleming, Lochside, Yetholm sold to £1,092; Limousin x Heifers from the same farm selling to 290p per kilo. Cull Cows from Cliftoncote, Yetholm sold to 250p per kilo for Saler crosses. A Pure Charolais Cow from Messrs J & S Glass, Crammond Hill, Cornhill-on-Tweed broke the records when it sold to 267p per kilo, weighing 460kg realising £1,228.20 total per head.

Store and Breeding cattle continue to impress with Bulling Heifers to £1,080. Limousin x Cows and Calves 2nd Calvers to £1,650. Yearling Charolais and Limousin Suckled Calves sold to 200p per kilo and £752. Strong Charolais x Bullocks 22 months old sold to £970.
