FARMER CONVICTED OF FRAUD.
A Cornish farmer was convicted of fraud, after falsifying documents in relation to his cattle records on his farm near Bodmin in Cornwall.
The farmer David Stacey, used false pedigree certificates to obtain a higher rate of government compensation for his TB reactor cattle.
He was fines 500 pounds and ordered to pay 1,000 pounds in costs, he also has to repay the money that he obtained by fraud.
Farmers to place a high value on their cattle is not uncommon, it is then the duty of the assessor to place a correct and current market value on the animals.
The Trading Standards animal health team and DEFRA, put the evidence together to bring this successful prosecution.
