averages: 174 fresh cows and milking heifers £1433.39; 45 Walnor dispersal cows £1199.33; 10 yearlings and stirks £667; 16 heifer calves £248.75.

AN ENTRY of 258 pedigree and commercial dairy cattle attracted a large ringside of buyers and fierce competition throughout at Wright Manley’s February Mid Month dairy sale, at Beeston, where no fewer than 30 lots sold for £2000 or more.

Top price was £2650 for a fresh calved pedigree heifer from Mark Bowden of Malpas. Barmere Roy Freedom 2, a daughter of Roylane Jordan out of a 10,000kg dam sold giving 32kg daily to FH Cookson and Sons of Agden, Altrincham, who were one of the main volume buyers of the day.
