NATIONAL SHEEP ASSOCIATION.

The National Sheep Association, has taken over the custody of semen archives established by DEFRA as part of the National Scapie Plan.

The archive contains 1,500 samples from 75 different breeds of sheep, which is believed to be the largest archive in the world.

Peter Morris, NSA chief executive, said "We felt something had to be done once Defra stated they were no longer going to maintain the archive".

Eblex and Quality Meat Scotland, have handed over money for the most valuable part of sheep farming history.

There many breeds that are no longer a part of the British rural scenery. The Romney Marsh, The Lincoln, The Devon Close-wool, The Devon Long-wool, Jacob Sheep, The Exmoor Horn, The Dorset Horn, to name but a few.
