United Kingdom-Recession hits farmers.
UNITED KINGDOM-RECESSION has hit the North Lincolnshire countryside, forcing a farm to relinquish its organic status.
The award-winning Pink Pig organic farm has had to abandon feeding its animals on all-natural feed after prices doubled.
Farmer Sally Jackson who owns the business, based at Holme, near Bottesford, said the meat produced from her pigs could no longer be classed as organic once they are eating conventional feed.
While the animals will still be free to roam outside and enjoy life, the title will be taken away because their food can not be guaranteed pesticide free.
"We are committed to producing affordable food for local people," said Mrs Jackson.
"Our pigs are 100 per cent free range, but the rise in costs means that we cannot continue to feed them organically whilst keeping our pork prices down for our customers..
"Our pigs are very sociable and love to root around, they are happy pigs and they taste better as a result".
