SAINSBURY AND ANIMAL WELFARE.

A new project that is aiming to improve animal welfare is being introduced to a 1200 sow unit in Yorkshire.

Sainsbury’s are backing the plan and going to address the concerns of shoppers in regard to animal welfare.

Anne Graham the agricultural manager for Sainsbury’s said, " Our customers expect us to lead the way in animal welfare. We did it with higher welfare chicken and eggs from battery chicken and we feel the time is right to improve conditions for pigs".

"Because we are a major pork retailer, any positive changes we make to the farrowing system will benefit millions of pigs in the future".


She went on to say that the supermarket was responding to customer demand foe thee welfare of animals that are used in the meat industry.
