Lake City man faces charges of running an unpermitted slaughterhouse at his home after state officials obtained warrants for his arrest.

Joe Louis Singletary Jr., 69, of 983 1/2 Rodman Road was arrested Saturday and released on a $5,000 surety bond later the same day, according to Florence County booking reports.

Singletary had been slaughtering and processing hogs, said Dr. Daniel Lafontaine, director of the S.C. Meat and Poultry Inspections Department.

A Florence County magistrate will determine any penalties, which could be as high as $1,000 in fines or as long as 30 days in jail, Lafontaine said.
