UNITED STATES-CATTLE DEALER GET 10 YEARS PRISON.
A 67-year-old Nebraska man accused in a bogus cattle deal has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison.
Jim Beard, of Superior, was sentenced on Thursday in Clay County District Court on a charge of theft by deception. He pleaded to contest to the charge, which deals with transactions at a Sutton sale barn in April 2007.
Beard faces another theft charge in a separate case in Webster County.
Authorities say he bounced a check of more than $13,000 for the purchase of cattle at a Blue Hill sale barn, also in April 2007. Officials say a week later he bought more than $10,000 worth of cattle but left without paying for them.
