NEW RADIO CATTLE EAR TAGS FOR USA

The USDA have announced new technology to help Traceability

28,000 of the new Tags have been sent to California, to assist in the new TB eradication scheme being put into place.

To date 6,600 cattle have been fitted with the new tags ,these type of tags have been around for some time in the private sector, dairy farms and large feedlots to monitor progress and cattle growth.

The electronic radio tag has a 15 digit number and the country of origin and allows vets to identify sick animals immediately, by radio transmission to a computer base.

Since 2002 bovine TB has been found in six states and 25,000 Reactors (animals that react positive to the test) have been slaughtered, under the eradication scheme.
