UNITED STATES-PORK TRADE.
The amount of pork moving into cold storage in North America is increasing, and this may be another sign that demand for meat has seen a significant drop.
Tyler Fulton of Manitoba Pork Marketing says despite a decline in production and no significant price changes, the amount of pork in frozen storage is seeing substantial growth.
He notes since price has been relatively steady, we are left with the probable conclusion that there has been a substantial drop in demand.
Fulton says this drop is likely due to changes in consumer behaviour relating to the economic downturn.
He believes pork is still the best positioned meat in terms of ability to deal with a recession.
