United States-Tyson offer half a billion dollars in notes.

Tyson Foods Inc. said Thursday the company will offer $500 million of unsecured senior notes due 2014 and will be arranging a new senior secured credit facility of up to $1 billion.

The Springdale, Ark.-based protein giant said in a press release it intends to use the proceeds from the note offering to repay borrowings, terminate commitments under its existing accounts receivable facility and repay or refinance other indebtedness.

Tyson said the new credit facility will be secured by the company’s cash, accounts receivable and inventory and will be guaranteed by its domestic subsidiaries. The new credit facility is to replace the company’s existing revolving credit facility, for which the company and certain of its material subsidiaries pledged substantially all their assets as collateral.

Subject to market and other conditions, the sale of the notes and closing of the new credit facility are expected to be completed in March.

Shares of Tyson Foods were $8.30, up 12 cents, in late morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
