UNITED STATES-BEEF AT THE WHITE HOUSE.

Nebraska beef was on the menu as first lady Michelle Obama opened the White House kitchen to six culinary students.

The first lady was joined by White House chefs and her social secretary yesterday in guiding the students through the planning for President Barack Obama’s dinner with the nation’s governors.

"This is where the magic happens," she told the students from the L’Academie de Cuisine in nearby Gaithersburg, Md., as they gathered in the main kitchen.

Besides the Nebraska beef, the menu included red dragon carrots from Ohio, sea scallops from Massachusetts and watermelon radishes grown in the Washington area. The dessert featured huckleberries from Idaho.
