Health Inspectors in Vietnam, have set up teams of veterinarians and food inspectors, to run random checks of food markets and butchers shops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Ming City, after many complaints about the condition of meat and poultry that is being sold.

There are to be new immediate fines imposed of US$600, for any violations of health laws and there could also be prison for the traders.

In Hanoi there is 13,000 tons of pork and 4,000 tons of poultry product sold in the markets each year, prior to now there has only been limited policing. The statement was released by Bui Cong Khan, who is the director of safety at the Ministry of Health Department of Food and Safety.
