IMPORTS DOWN.
As the government of Vietnam offers incentives to local farmers, to produce more produce, there has been a marked decline in the import of meat.
For the first eight months of 2008, the country imported 103,401 tons of poultry meat, this fell to 5,363 in the last four months of the year.
Hoang Kim Glao, Head of the Livestock Breeding Department, said when releasing the figures, " The Ministry of Finance increased the import duty from 15% to 40%, in order to protect our local farmers".
80% of the chicken imports are legs, wings, feet and offal.Most of the imports are from the United States and Brazil
